Mary Pickford [Mary Pickford]
(1893–1979) one of the most famous actors in US silent films, born in Canada, who became known as ‘America’s Sweetheart’. She had long curls and played innocent characters. In 1919, she joined Douglas Fairbanks 1 (her husband from 1920 to 1936), Charlie Chaplin and D W Griffith to establish the film company ↑United Artists. Her films included Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1917) and ↑Pollyanna (1920). In 1976, she received a special ↑Oscar for her services to the film industry.
